Cole Cubelic and Greg McElroy recently shared their thoughts on LSU and Florida State as the Week 1 primetime clash approaches.

During the Tuesday edition of McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, the duo looks ahead to the most highly anticipated matchup on the docket this weekend.

Cubelic isn’t optimistic about LSU’s chances of knocking off Florida State.

“As far as them playing Florida State, they have secondary concerns. Florida State has a good quarterback and a dynamic receiving core. So that would be the problem that I have with them there,” Cubelic said. “Also, just some of the stuff coming out of camp doesn’t sound super, super, super positive.”

Cubelic also cites the absence of defensive tackle Maason Smith (suspension), as another factor, while noting that LSU might underperform to the outside expectations set for them.

“One of your best defensive players is going to be out in that game,” Cubelic said. “So yeah, I’ve got some concerns about what LSU may be compared to what a lot of folks think that they are going to be this season.”

Meanwhile, McElroy is extremely high on Florida State heading into the season.

“I think they’re really talented at pretty much every position. I think they’ve got a dynamic pass rush and they’ve been pretty stout inside on defense,” McElroy said. “I think the offensive line, even though they’re not going to overpower you, they do a good job with their scheme to create extra gaps. I think they have a top 3 or 4 play caller in America in Mike Norvell.”

McElroy also mentioned the strides made by quarterback Jordan Travis and the pickup of Virginia transfer cornerback Fentrell Cyprus II as reasons to jump on the Seminoles’ bandwagon.

“I think their quarterback has gotten better every year and the weapons have gotten better every year,” McElroy said. “I would probably go as far as to say their secondary with the addition of Fentrell Cyprus, the transfer from UVA, they have a lockdown guy now and they didn’t really have that last year. I think they’re legit. I think they’re really, really good.”

LSU vs. Florida State will be on Sept. 3 (7:30 p.m. EST/ABC) from Orlando.
