Cole Cubelic is back once again, delivering his weekly SEC takeaways late Sunday night for the Week 7 slate of action. As usual, Cubelic tackled each and every team that was in action over the weekend.
At the top of the SEC, contending teams such as Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee managed to avoid taking a loss but were struggling to finish things off against lesser competition at home. Cubelic began with the Crimson Tide, admitting Kalen DeBoer’s team was “fortunate” to get a win against South Carolina.
As for the Bulldogs, Cubelic told Kirby Smart’s team to “take the conference win & move on.” He did say it was tougher than it needed to be vs. Mississippi State.
Cubelic addressed what developed into a massive win for Texas and admitted it was a slow start for the Longhorns. However, Cubelic also said the body language of Quinn Ewers “immediately told me it wasn’t a concern.”
Vanderbilt also drew some praise for Cubelic for another big win, this time taking down Kentucky after the massive upset of Alabama. Here are the full takeaways from Cubelic:
FLORIDA: Hell of an effort. Mistakes that cost them can’t happen. Had run going early. Unbalanced formations were a problem. Opened up some holes. LT was pretty good. TEs helped. 1 ran like a maniac. 13 good. Red zone calls just odd. Side to side just not what’s there. 15 great…

KENTUCKY: A true comedy of errors. Mistakes left & right. Played hard. Played physical. Still can’t find explosive plays. Offense seems to be searching for an identity & it has to be finding what the QB Is comfy and/or capable of. Defense was solid. LBs played well. Special teams…

MISSISSIPPI STATE: Fought hard. Showed a lot. Run support from back end solid. 2 & 10 were showing up. Movement helped up front. 44 & 22 disruptive up front. 23 made some things happen up there. 7 active. Liked that they stayed aggressive. Just can’t hold with fewer bodies right…

OLE MISS: Brutal way to drop one on the road. Felt in control for most but couldn’t put it away. OL a mess. Lost in pass pro. Sloppy in run game. RB’s made a lot happen with ball but got pummeled in pass pro. Patience & cut backs got bigger gains. 24 found creases. QB legs…

SOUTH CAROLINA: Just brutal. Played hard. QB made plays. Missed some. Both plans were fantastic. Had the read game going with extra movement. Took shots. Needed a little more in protection. 6 solid, he really helps. 3 & 8 made big plays. Turnover last just too much. Fumbled mesh…

TEXAS: Big one. QB started slow but body language immediately told me it wasn’t a concern. Accurate & deliberate. OL settled down & Sark got the shifts & formations to help. Got to playmakers in a hurry to avoid pressures. 85 had a huge game in multiple facets. Split zone &…

VANDERBILT: Big win. Showing up & not being flat was a big statement of that program. Had every reason to. QB beat up but kept grinding. Stuck with plan. Forced hand & let him make a few plays. He’s a magician off the reads. Just a gamer. Tough. Gritty & team rides with him. Did…
