Cole Cubelic reveals post-Week 8 takeaways for every SEC program

Cole Cubelic is back with his weekly SEC takeaways after a truly massive weekend in the nation’s top college football conference.
Both lower-ranked teams won the pair of ranked-on-ranked matchups this past weekend. Cubelic called Georgia’s win over Texas a “statement win” while praising Tennessee’s defense (and Dylan Sampson) for the Vols’ big win over the Crimson Tide.
Florida, LSU, Mizzou, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M and South Carolina also picked up wins this weekend, all coming against SEC opponents except Vanderbilt (which beat Ball State). Of those, South Carolina got the biggest applause, specifically its defense.
The Gamecocks defense is absolutely underrated, somehow. They pressure the quarterback well, shown by their 9 sacks against Jackson Arnold and Michael Hawkins. Jalon Kilgore and Nick Emmanwori are excellent defensive backs and each have 3+ interceptions on the season – 2 of which for Emmanwori came in Week 8.
Here are the remainder of Cubelic’s takeaways from Week 8 in the SEC:
ARKANSAS: Dis their part to hand this one over. Gave it away early. Missed protections. QB consistently on the run. Took some big hits. QB made a few nice throws outside the pocket. Left some yards out there down middle of field. 2 had a really nice game. They worked middle of…

FLORIDA: Nice win. Had stretch play working. Good continuity with OL on it. Had a consistent push. 13 is the man! Not being super twitched up helps the zone scheme set itself up. He has power, jump cut, stiff arm. Fun to watch. QB had a few really nice throws. Used legs well. WRs…

KENTUCKY: That one hurts. Did not look like them. DL got pushed a little. Too much flow. 3 played well on def. 0 got push. Pad level got high later. Over perused some. Got lost in coverage some. 25 did some nice things. Just don’t seem to have much juice. Run game seemed to go…

MISSISSIPPI STATE: Showed some fight. Like how they have altered the run plan. More window dressing to help the young QB. He is gaining confidence. Give him more reads with quick throws off them. Extensions of run game in flat. Missed trigger blitzes. RBs struggled in protection.…

OKLAHOMA: Ugly one. Lost possession, lead, momentum & confidence in the first 5 min. QB change had to be made. At least you get some consistency in the quick game with 11. After that still got anxious. Couldn’t protect. Suffered technically at tackle. Possibly could have attacked…

TENNESSEE: Big win. The crowd 100% helped them get this W. Timing was off multiple times on pass & run downs. They affected things. 6 was outstanding. Patience. Tough. Durable. Grinded yards when he had to. OL was ok. Played with good effort. Missed some pressures. Got good help…

TEXAS A&M: Conference win on the road. DL came out swinging. Stunts got them out of spots in run game early on. Did not tackle well in space. 5, 17 & 18 were in the backfield. Scramble drill hurt then but they were getting home. 2nd straight week they had defenders unblocked at…

VANDERBILT: Avoided let down. QB worked the mesh well. Hit some nice quick throws. OL missed a few blitz pick ups. Struggled with 2nd level. Lot of LB run thru. 2 good with head fakes. Nice accuracy on the move. Did miss on a few high % balls. 28 grinded. Extra hats came down…
