College baseball umpire draws heat for absurd called 3rd strike to end game

One college baseball umpire is drawing some criticism after a ridiculous ending to one game.

Friday night, Mississippi Valley State was playing against New Orleans. New Orleans held a 7-3 lead with 2 outs in the 9th with the game looking like it would conclude without drama involved. That’s when things took a turn.

With the count at 1-1 on the batter, the umpire called strike 2 on a pitch that appeared low and was borderline at best. The batter reacted emotionally and voiced his displeasure at the call.

Then, with the count at 1-2, the umpire rang up the batter on a pitch that was clearly wide of the strike zone and very low. Both teams and the announcer were clearly shocked at the call with the New Orleans catcher even trying to console the hitter afterward.

“That’s down — oh my gosh! Wow, he got rung up on ball 2 and the game is over! Oh my goodness, that is horrific,” exclaimed the announcer.
