The SEC and other major conferences were holding their tournaments when the coronavirus abruptly shut down men’s college basketball and all the other NCAA spring sports in March. Two dates have emerged as possibilities for the return of college hoops according to one insider.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, citing sources, reports that Nov. 25 and Dec. 4 are being eyed as potential start dates for the 2020-21 college basketball season, a delay of roughly a month as many major teams traditionally begin exhibition games in late October and early November.
Earlier in August, Rothstein reported that several college basketball power conferences have discussed the possibility of holding games in a bubble setting. The NBA was able to resume its season by going to a fan-less Disney World bubble for remaining regular-season and postseason games.
Sources: November 25th and December 4th have emerged as the two likeliest start dates to begin the 20-21 college basketball season.
