UConn is in the hunt for a new head coach after the sudden departure of Randy Edsall.
The Huskies began the season at 0-2 with losses to Fresno State and FCS Holy Cross. On Sept. 6, 2 days after the loss to the Crusaders, Edsall announced that he would step down following the season, but a day later the school announced that his departure was effective immediately.
Now, according to Mike DiMauro from The Day in New London, Conn., the program’s assistant coaches have been given notice that they will not be coming back to UConn after finishing the season.
According to DiMauro, the assistants were told last week, with the university set to send letters out this week detailing a 6-month severance it is set to pay each coach.
However, UConn has disputed the report, claiming that it is “inaccurate”.
“The coaches are under contract and that contract, along with any relevant obligations under the collective bargaining agreement, will be honored,” a spokesperson told the newspaper.
As for the on-field product, things haven’t gotten better under interim head coach Lou Spanos. The Huskies were blown out by Purdue in his first game on Sept. 11 and fell at Army on Saturday. They next host Wyoming.
