College football bowl projections: 12 SEC teams projected in postseason by Athlon Sports

College football preseason bowl projections are some of our favorite preseason predictions.

For 2022, Athlon Sports is the latest publication to release its bowl projections in its preseason magazine. The outlet as 12 SEC programs going bowling in the postseason, including 2 SEC programs in the College Football Playoff.

The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs are once again expected to make the final 4 teams, with the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Clemson Tigers joining the duo. The outlet predicts that Alabama and Ohio State will play in the national championship. Before the national title, however, Alabama is projected to play Clemson in the Peach Bowl, while Georgia is expected to play Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.

Only 2 SEC East programs didn’t make the cut this year: Missouri and Vanderbilt. Ouch.

College Football Playoff semifinal at Peach Bowl: Alabama vs. Clemson
Sugar Bowl: Texas A&M vs. Baylor
Citrus Bowl: Tennessee vs. Wisconsin
Reliaquest Bowl: Kentucky vs. Michigan State
Music City Bowl: Arkansas vs. Iowa
Gator Bowl: Florida vs. Pittsburgh
Texas Bowl: Ole Miss vs. Texas
Liberty Bowl: South Carolina vs. West Virginia
Las Vegas Bowl: LSU vs. Washington
Gasparilla Bowl: Auburn vs. Louisville
Birmingham Bowl: Mississippi State vs. Maryland

My favorite matchups of these projections? I’d have to go with Georgia and Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinal game and Tennessee vs. Wisconsin in the Citrus Bowl.
