College football bowl projections: Brett McMurphy includes 11 SEC teams in preseason predictions

The 2024 college football season has not kicked off yet, but bowl game projections have already started.
With it being “game week” for the Week 0 slate, Brett McMurphy of the Action Network shared his preseason projections on Monday.

The College Football Playoff expands to 12 teams this season. The 12 bids will go to the top five conference champions and seven at-large teams. The four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded 1-4 and receive a first-round bye, automatically advancing to the quarterfinals.

McMurphy has four SEC squads making the CFP in his postseason predictions. Alabama is projected as the No. 2 seed, receiving a bye. Georgia (No. 6), Ole Miss (No. 7) and LSU (No. 8) are also projected to be Playoff teams. Here’s McMurphy’s full 12-team field:

- No. 5 Ohio State
- No. 6 Georgia
- No. 7 Ole Miss
- No. 8 LSU
- No. 9 Penn State
- No. 10 Virginia Tech

Outside the CFP, McMurphy has seven other SEC teams playing in bowl games. Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Vanderbilt are not projected to go bowling by McMurphy.
