College football fans did a collective touchdown dance on Tuesday when news spread that EA Sports is in development for a new college football video game.
EA Sports, which hadn’t made a college football video game since 2013, announced that it would begin working on a new version, though any release would not happen this year.
Still, fans around the country rejoiced at the possibility of playing it some day again.
Former SEC stars were among the options fans mentioned to be on the cover, from LSU’s Joe Burrow, to Kentucky’s Lynn Bowden.
Here is a sampling of the reaction:
Where do I give my money @EASPORTS? I’m ready to preorder now #Finally #CFB https://t.co/1zXRv94c9W

. @EASports announced the return of its #CFB video game, now called EA Sports College Football. The last version of this series was #NCAAFootball14, which featured then-Michigan QB Denard Robinson on its cover.

Favorite EA Sports CFB memories:
– Getting the original Bill Walsh game at age 11, then getting it on Sega CD and hooking up speakers in my bedroom to hear those sweet updated sounds
– Seeing an ad for CFUSA 96 in some magazine (EGM?) and discovering every team was in the game

YES! I’m excited that #EASports is bringing back CFB but this is just another way for the #NCAA to make money off of student-athletes who get in trouble if Subway puts an extra pickle on their footlong. #paythem https://t.co/tVaxB67Icf

We riot if @LynnBowden_1 isn’t on the cover of the new CFB game… @EASPORTS

EA Sports is making a new CFB game and it’s not the most important news everywhere???? WTF
— EverythingIsOnTheTable (@SpottedBabies) February 2, 2021
EA Sports CFB is back! No group license or NIL breakthrough to play with individual players. But good platform for install rosters from current team. This is clearly a sign that NIL is coming. EA waiting in wings. No firm date on return. Won’t be this year. Look for 2022 season.

I love the EA Sports College Football franchise!! 100% Only fear I have is they’re gonna go in the same direction as Madden (Online priority and ignore the base game features) which has been suffering for same time CFB has been gone!
PLEASE be worth the return!— TraditioNole (@TraditiNole) February 2, 2021
