College football fans stunned at controversial roughing the passer in Alabama-Texas game

It continues to be a strange day in Austin for the referees.

With just under 10 minutes to play in the third quarter and the game ties at 10, it appeared as if Bryce Young was sacked in the end zone for a safety that would have given the Longhorns a 12-10 lead.

A flag was also thrown on the play for a potential targeting call and.or roughing the passer call.

After reviewing the video, the officials said there was no targeting and that the targeting was the only call reviews and that it would be 4th down for Alabama, which subsequently punted from its own 3-yard line.

To most observers it appeared that either a penalty or a safety would have to be the result of the review, and social media was left in complete shock over the events that transpired:
