No. 10 Miami is set to host No. 17 North Carolina at Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida on Saturday.
That will turn out to be the final game of the regular season for the Hurricanes, as the ACC announced on Friday evening that their game against Georgia Tech scheduled for Dec. 19 is canceled.
According to a statement from the conference, Georgia Tech “will not be able to meet several of the ACC Medical Advisory Group’s COVID-19 game discontinuation considerations”.
Miami is 8-1, and with a win on Saturday can possibly assure itself a spot in a New Year’s 6 bowl, potentially the Orange Bowl in its familiar home venue. But the Tar Heels will look to play spoiler in its regular-season finale and continue a successful run under Mack Brown since his return to the college football sidelines.
As for Georgia Tech, its season is now over after a loss to Pitt on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets finish at 3-7 overall and 3-6 in the ACC.
