Tragic news to report on Thursday morning.

Luke Knox, a tight end at Florida International University who transferred from Ole Miss this offseason, has passed away at the age of 22.

The school announced Knox’s passing on Twitter on Thursday morning, sending thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and teammates:

Coach Mike MacIntyre, who also coached Knox during his time at Ole Miss, issued a statement on Twitter:

“Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend, Luke Knox,” MacIntyre’s statement reads. “I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and at FIU. While I admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember. He had a special way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and confident. Luke’s family is special to me, and they will continually be in my heart and in my prayers during this difficult time. On behalf of the entire FIU football family, I extend sincere condolences to Luke’s family and all who love him.”

Knox is the younger brother of former Ole Miss star tight end Dawson Knox, who now plays for the Buffalo Bills.

Luke started his Ole Miss career as a linebacker, recording 11 tackles, 2 pass breakups and a fumble recovery in 2019 and 2020 before switching over to tight end last year.

RIP, Luke.
