College Football Playoff rankings, Nov. 26: Alabama, Ole Miss drop after Week 13 losses

The fourth College Football Playoff rankings for the 2024 season have been unveiled.

It’s a new era of the CFP, adding new drama to the weekly rankings.

This year, the field has expanded to 12 teams. The 12 spots are not for the top 12 teams, however. The 5 highest-ranked conference champions are guaranteed bids. The top 4 conference champions get first-round byes. That leaves 7 at-large bids based on the CFP selection committee rankings.

Once the 12-team field is set, First Round games will be played from Dec. 20-21. Those games will involve the 5-12 seeds, with the higher seeds hosting on campus.

From there, it’s back to bowl games. The 4 quarterfinal games will be played on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The Fiesta Bowl gets the New Year’s Eve game, while the Peach Bowl, the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl will hold games on New Year’s Day.

Semifinals are scheduled for Jan. 9 and 10 in games to be played at the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl. The new format extends the postseason. The College Football Playoff National Championship is set to be played on Jan. 20 in Atlanta.
