It looks like we will be getting at least one new team in the top 4 of the College Football Playoff selection committee rankings.
Mel Tucker’s Michigan State Spartans entered Week 10 with an 8-0 record and No. 3 ranking. Sparty fell to an unranked 5-3 Purdue squad 40-29 on Saturday.
Oregon (No. 4, 7-1), Ohio State (No. 5, 7-1) and Cincinnati (No. 6, 8-0) were the teams in line behind MSU. Ohio State improved to 8-1 with a 26-17 win over Nebraska. Cincinnati is now 9-0 after escaping Tulsa’s upset bid 28-20. Oregon plays at Washington, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The selection committee leaned heavily on head-to-head outcomes for the first 2021 poll. If that holds, expect MSU to remain ahead of Michigan. Jim Harbaugh’s squad is ranked No. 7. UM (7-1) hosts Indiana, a kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
