College football rankings: AP Top 25 scores, results for Week 10

For voters in the Associated Press Top 25, rearranging the bottom half of the poll is becoming a weekly exercise.
Ten ranked teams lost on Saturday. Seven of those teams were ranked in the range of Nos. 11 to 19. For the voters, just when they think they’re getting a feel for teams like Florida or Iowa, those teams and go out and lose to an unranked four-loss opponent.
After Week 9, we looked at whether three-loss teams deserve to be ranked in the Top 25. After Week 10, it’s an almost laughable question. Since momentum and timing of wins and losses factor into the rankings, expect a team like three-loss No. 18 Mississippi State, winner of back-to-back games, to climb the rankings as one of the few teams in the teens to actually win Saturday.
At the very least, the AP Top 25 is a topic of discussion for the College Football Playoff selection committee. At its best, the media’s poll can serve as a check or productive counter to the committee’s rankings by highlighting difference’s in opinion.
With LSU’s loss, expect both the writers (AP Top 25) and committee (CFP) to view Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame and Michigan as the four best teams in the nation.
