College football officially got underway Thursday night with 2 FBS games. UAB defeated Central Arkansas 45-35, while underdog South Alabama beat Southern Miss 32-21.

The good news is that the coronavirus didn’t impact either game, and that certainly bodes well for the rest of college football.

The SEC isn’t scheduled to start until Saturday, September 26; so, there are 3 Saturdays until the conference kicks off Week 1. Thankfully, there will be football played, starting today.

ESPN’s pregame show College GameDay also starts Saturday with a preview show at 11:00 a.m. ET, and the show will announce its first road destination for next Saturday.

The best game on tap for Saturday is Arkansas State’s trip to Memphis at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Tigers are favored by 16 points against the Red Wolves. It should be a fun matchup.

College football schedule for Saturday, September 5

  • Eastern Kentucky at Marshall, 1:00 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Middle Tennessee at Army, 1:30 p.m. ET (CBSSN)
  • SMU at Texas State, 4:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Houston Baptist at North Texas, 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN3)
