College football teams look for motivation from all types of avenues, and rat traps with cheese are a popular place to start. Of course, Alabama coach Nick Saban’s rat poison is one of the more talked about motivational phrases in recent seasons.

Jeff Traylor of UTSA, one of the more quotable coaches in college football, told reporters that the staff passed out about 112 rat traps to symbolize that players shouldn’t take the bait, and eat the cheese.

The problem? One of the players gave one to Traylor, a player called “one of my smart alleck seniors,” but it smashed one of his fingers.

“It looks like my pinky got smashed by a hammer,” Traylor said. “It woulda killed a lesser man, but I’m OK.”

UTSA is 4-3, and on Saturday beat Florida Atlantic 36-10. The Roadrunners play East Carolina this week.
