Week 10 of the college football season was just completed, and yet, there’s already been a cancellation for Week 11.
On Sunday, the Mountain West Conference announced that next week’s game between Air Force and Wyoming won’t be played. Originally scheduled to take place this upcoming Saturday, it’s been canceled due to “an upward trend of COVID-19 cases at the Air Force Academy and within the football program.”
Air Force opened the season 1-2, but its Week 10 game against Army was postponed. It’s possible the two teams will make up that game at a later date. That won’t be the case for the Falcons’ game against Wyoming, which has been ruled a no contest. Air Force’s next scheduled game is against New Mexico on Nov. 20, although it’s unclear whether that game will also be in jeopardy of being canceled.
Now that this Saturday’s game is canceled, Wyoming’s next game is scheduled for Nov. 19 against Utah State. The Cowboys are 1-2 after losing at Colorado State this past Thursday night.
The 2020 college football season has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as games across the country have been canceled/postponed due to positive tests. It’s likely this won’t be the last game to be affected.
