Ridgewater College, which is located in Minnesota, suspended its football program for the rest of the 2018 season because of concerns over player safety.

“The safety of our students, including our student-athletes, is our top concern,” Ridgewater College President Craig Johnson said in a press release. “Given the reduced size of our roster, we are concerned about players being in unfamiliar positions as this could increase the risk of injury. We did not make the decision lightly, but feel that it is in the best interests of our student-athletes.”

The depleted Ridgewater College football roster is down to just 22 players from 54. Many of the remaining 22 players will reportedly file hardship requests with the NJCAA in an effort to earn another year of eligibility.

Johnson and the coaching staff will take a deeper look at the program and make a decision on future seasons at a later date. Ridgewater College finished this season 0-4.
