Colorado quarterback Dominiq Ponder dies at age 23

Colorado quarterback Dominiq Ponder has passed away, the school announced on Sunday evening. He was 23 years old.
According to reports, Ponder lost control of his vehicle while taking a right-hand curve, which caused the vehicle to cross a lane of traffic and roll down an embankment after colliding with a guardrail. This tragic event took place early Sunday morning and Ponder was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ponder was set to enter his third season at Colorado after transferring in from Bethune-Cookman ahead of the 2024 season. He attempted just 1 pass with the Buffaloes after attempting 8 passes for Bethune-Cookman in 2023, making his Colorado debut against Arizona.
“The entire CU Athletics family is devastated at the tragic passing of Dominiq Ponder,” Colorado AD Fernando Lovo said in a statement. “He epitomized the values of passion, enthusiasm, leadership, toughness, and intelligence that were revered by his teammates and coaches alike. Our hearts go out to his family and all of his teammates during this difficult time.”
