If Colorado lands one of these targets, it’s clear which side of the ball the school has prioritised during this coaching search. After all, defense wins championships, right?

Apparently, that’s the logic in Boulder these days as the Buffaloes are interesting in three names during the silly season, aka the coaching carousel: Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason and Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt.

This news comes via Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.

It should be noted that Leavitt coached at Colorado as the defensive coordinator from 2015 and 2016. His final season in Boulder, the team won 10 games. He also has 13 years experience as head coach of USF. Mason has experience coaching in the Pac-12, at Stanford as the defensive coordinator, and has five years experience as Vanderbilt’s head coach. Tucker briefly served as interim head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars but never served as a head coach other than that. He finished as the runner-up to Jeremy Pruitt for the Tennessee job last offseason.

Colorado fired Mike MacIntyre recently following six seasons at the school. He racked up a 30-44 overall record at the school and a 14-39 Pac-12 record.
