SEC commissioner Greg Sankey witnessed two SEC teams play for one of the most captivating women’s championships of all time, and he couldn’t help but compare it to America’s pastime.
When things don’t go according to plan in sports, it makes for great television. Mississippi State’s upset of UConn to end their 111-game win streak meant exactly that, as millions of viewers tuned in to see the women’s championship.
On the flip side, baseball has lost a bit of its sheen in the national conscious, and even the luster of MLB’s opening day couldn’t save their numbers from being passed by this women’s basketball final. As Sankey points out, it just means more in the SEC.
