On Monday, Texas and Oklahoma took the first step toward joining the SEC — informing the Big 12 they plan to leave when the current media rights deal is up.

Now, as we wait for the schools to take the second step — receiving an invitation from the SEC and officially applying to join the conference — things are reportedly happening behind the scenes.

Per Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger, the SEC presidents have scheduled a meeting for Thursday:

Could that meeting be to vote on allowing the Longhorns and Sooners to join the conference? If the formal application comes over the next couple of days, it could certainly happen.

Things are happening quickly when it comes to the realignment in college football.
