Mizzou found its new athletics director in Jim Sterk, the former San Diego State AD.
On Tuesday night, contract details were released for the Tigers’ new AD. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Sterk will make an annual salary of $700,000.
Interim chancellor Hank Foley said he’s thrilled to welcome Sterk to the Mizzou family:
“This is a wonderful day for Mizzou and Tiger fans everywhere,” Foley said in a prepared statement. “Jim’s leadership in intercollegiate athletics is unparalleled, and we are thrilled he is going to bring his talents, energy and passion for working with student-athletes to Columbia. He is just what Mizzou needs at this time.”
Sterk was making $315,000 at San Diego State this year, according to the report, so the Mizzou job represents a hefty raise.
Oh, and don’t worry, Tiger fans — there’s a large buyout in the contract should Sterk decide to follow in former AD Mack Rhoades and leave before his seven years are up. The buyout is $1.4 million, reduced by $200,000 for each year he stays at the post.
