Well, that was quick.
After several clusters of COVID-19 outbreaks on campus at North Carolina, the school has announced all classes will transition to online-only beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19. North Carolina opened fall classes last week.
According to UNC, the school has 177 students in isolation and another 349 in quarantine, both on and off-campus.
“Since launching the Roadmap for Fall 2020, we have emphasized that if we were faced with the need to change plans — take an off-ramp — we would not hesitate to do so, but we have not taken this decision lightly. We have made it in consultation with state and local health officials, Carolina’s infectious disease experts and the UNC System,” UNC Chancellor Kevin M. Guskiewicz and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Robert A. Blouin said Monday in a joint statement.
It’s unclear what, if any, impact this news has on North Carolina’s football season.
North Carolina is set to open the season at home against Syracuse on Saturday, Sept. 12.
