Kentucky legend Craig Yeast, the Wildcats’ all-time leader in catches and receiving yards, spoke out on Thursday about the recruiting process his son, Russ, has gone through so far this summer.
Russ originally committed to follow in his father’s footsteps, but de-committed from Kentucky on June 16.
Craig said in a Kentucky.com article that he’s tired of all the criticism his family has gotten since Russ’s decision:
“Look, I love Kentucky, always have, always will,” Craig Yeast says. “I’m for Kentucky in everything. Football. Basketball. Baseball. Softball. Soccer. If the Cats are on TV, I’m watching. But Russ Yeast is not Craig Yeast. And he decided Kentucky was not the best place for him.”
“There really wasn’t anything (UK) did that soured him,” Craig Yeast says. “He made the (original) decision pretty early, and these kids are making big life decisions at 15, 16, 17 years old. Russ just decided that he wasn’t sure Kentucky was the best place for him, and that he wanted to look at more schools.”
To be fair, the Wildcats are still very much in the mix for the three-star 2017 recruit.
247Sports lists Louisville, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Alabama and Auburn as the favorites to land the 5-foot-11, 178-pound athlete.
Wherever the younger Yeast ends up, though, Craig said he hopes fans put themselves in Russ’s shoes before they take to the internet to criticize the teenager.
