Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers lost to Duke on Monday night to open the 2023 campaign.
If we’ve learned anything during Swinney’s tenure as the Clemson head coach, it’s that people love to see him lose. So, after Duke’s 28-7 win over Clemson, Swinney was blasted on social media.
The win for Duke snapped a streak of 28 consecutive losses to AP Top 10 teams. And it certainly seemed like Clemson was doing everything in its power to hand the Blue Devils a historic night. Twice in the second half, Clemson’s offense turned the football over inside the Duke 10-yard-line.
On 6 second-half possessions, Clemson gained 255 yards at 6 yards a play and scored 0 points. The Tigers missed a field goal, fumbled twice, turned it over on downs twice, and threw an interception.
Unsurprisingly, Swinney took quite a bit of heat for the loss. Here’s some of the reaction:

Dabo Swinney is a lesson we’ve already learned in countless industries, it doesn’t matter how far ahead you are of your competition, if you refuse to evolve and adapt to changing conditions eventually the competition will catch up and your organization will fall from within.

Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
