Dabo Swinney on his ’15 years left’ in coaching: ‘I don’t know if I’ll be here but it’ll be somewhere’

Dabo Swinney made some notable comments on his weekly radio show on Monday night.
Swinney responded sharply to criticism from a fan over his salary and Clemson’s 4-4 start to the season. Swinney also said he has 15 years left in his head coaching career.
Shortly after the fiery exchange, Swinney responded to another fan who said he was glad to have Swinney for another 15 seasons. Swinney responded by seemingly saying he could finish his career at another institution.
“I don’t know if I’ll be here but it’ll be somewhere,” Swinney said.
Another caller expressed pleasure that Dabo says he plans to coach 15 more years (assuming that meant at Clemson).

Given the context of the intense conversation and Clemson’s slow start, it’s possible Swinney was just making a sarcastic comment about his future. Swinney hasn’t coached anywhere besides Clemson and Alabama at the collegiate level. He’s been with Clemson’s program since being hired as a receivers coach in 2003.
Clemson is 4-4 on the season for the first time since 2010. The Tigers’ loss to NC State last weekend means that their streak of consecutive 10+ win seasons will end this year.
Clemson will welcome Notre Dame to Death Valley on Saturday.
