Clemson and N.C. State have a history of incidents that have spilled into heated discussions off the field in recent years, especially among the coaching staff.

The latest example came Saturday when N.C. State coach Dave Doeren suggested in post-game comments that there was a laptop on the Clemson sideline that he would like investigated. Clemson won the game 38-31 after Wolfpack quarterback Ryan Finley threw an interception near the goal line.

On Saturday, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was initially shocked at the accusation. On Tuesday, Swinney said Doeren had not called to discuss the incident, but that it challenged “out integrity.”

Swinney mentioned that defensive end Bradley Chubb repeatedly swiped towels from Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant during Saturday’s game, and that the laptop had something to do with someone ordering towels from Amazon.

Swinney also brought up a previous incident when he said a State assistant coach pushed former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, and another person on the State sideline this year took “a swipe” at a Clemson player.

“I think the investigation needs to be watching his sideline and not worrying about ours,” Swinney said.
