The Dak Prescott contract saga continues. On deadline day for Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys to reach an agreement on a long-term deal, the two parties could not get it done.
Jane Slater of the NFL Network reports that a deal between $33-35 million annually with $110 million guaranteed was on the table as the 4 p.m. ET deadline approached. Slater reports that Prescott wanted to get the deal done but the clock ran out. Both sides, of course, had plenty of time to iron out a deal before Wednesday. Slater added that Prescott disputed the details that the deal included a $50 million signing bonus and $70 million over the first two seasons.
Without a long-term deal, Prescott is set to play under the franchise tag in 2020. Pro Football Talk notes that Prescott is only the third NFL quarterback in history to play under the franchise tag, joining Drew Brees and Kirk Cousins. Neither of them signed long-term deals with their teams after those seasons as Brees left the Chargers for the Saints and Cousins left Washington for Minnesota. Today’s news will certainly have fans and pundits wondering if this will be Prescott’s final season in Dallas.
I’m told #Cowboys QB Dak Prescott was involved at the last minute in an effort to get a long term deal done but it was up against the 3pm CST deadline per source informed. The deal was between 33-35M annually with a 110 guaranteed. #Cowboys #Dak

Dak Prescott declined to clarify but disputes some of the details reported here. Tells me while he did talk to Stephen Jones & try to get a deal done he’s grateful and blessed to be a Cowboy and working & moving forward to do whatever he can to help the team win a Super Bowl. https://t.co/GbNuhiLZhK
