Former Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a right hand injury during Sunday night’s 19-3 fall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will reportedly be out 6-8 weeks, according to a report from ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear in the press conference following the game that “Dak will be out for a while,” saying that he required surgery on a joint above the thumb on his throwing hand. Based on what the Cowboys’ medical staff told Prescott, he suffered a clean break.

This is yet another setback for Prescott, who has dealt with multiple injury issues over recent years. In 2020, he missed 11 games after suffering a compound fracture and dislocation to his right ankle. He missed last season due to a calf strain.

Prescott put it simply when he spoke with reporters about the injury.

“Just another bump in the road.”
