The Dallas Cowboys made a big move last week when it was announced the team had traded a fourth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for Trey Lance. With that, Will Grier’s time at quarterback with the Cowboys comes to a close.

Starting signal-caller Dak Prescott has experienced a range of emotions since the news was announced, including some disappointment for Grier. Prescott himself was not notified by owner and general manager Jerry Jones of the trade ahead of the Saturday kickoff against the Las Vegas Raiders.

“I can’t say that I necessarily expected [a heads-up], no,” Prescott said, per ESPN. “I understand though that that’s business. I understand that they’re probably on a timeline, they need to get something done. He felt like that strengthened this team and, yeah, ready to welcome [Lance] and, yeah, I mean knowing the strength of the quarterback room that we have. Honestly right now, my heart and my mind is with Will. So it’s a tough situation, honestly. Love that guy to death over there. Plays his ass off, comes in, prepares the right way each and every day.”

Prescott says he wasn’t necessarily shocked, though, with the nature of the league.

“You’ve been in this league eight years, been on this team,” Prescott said, “It’s hard to say that I was surprised to be honest with you.”

How Lance fares with a change of scenery and what things look like for him in the long-term will be something to keep an eye on.
