Saivion Smith has spent the 2020 season going back and forth between the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad and active roster. And on Tuesday, he was again added to the active roster for the Cowboys’ road matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, which the team announced earlier in the day.
Smith, a former Alabama defensive back, has yet to record any stats in his NFL career, but he was moved to Dallas’ active roster for three games earlier in the season. With players going on the reserve/COVID-19 list at various points throughout this unorthodox season, NFL teams are allowed to move players from the practice squad to the active roster on gameday before sending them back.
After transferring to Alabama and playing one season for the Crimson Tide in 2018, Smith wasn’t selected during the 2019 NFL Draft. He later signed as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he was waived before the start of the 2019 season.
Smith played two games for the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL earlier this year, before the league shut down operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cowboys signed Smith in April, then waived him and added him to their practice squad in September, prior to the start of the 2020 season.
Dallas and Baltimore are set to kick off at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday night on FOX and NFL Network.
