Mississippi State backup quarterback Damian Williams is heading to Texas State, according to a report from Rivals’ Texas State site.

Williams made his intentions to transfer known three hours after the Egg Bowl victory over Ole Miss.

Since Williams is a graduate transfer, he’ll be eligible to play immediately.  He played in four games this season, including the bowl game victory over Miami (Ohio) Monday and completed 31 of 47 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns. Williams also rushed for 99 yards.

With Nick Fitzgerald firmly entrenched in the starting quarterback role, Williams’ decision to transfer wasn’t too surprising, especially for a guy who wants to play in his final season.

Texas State finished 2-10 during the 2016 season.
