It’s been a long layoff for LSU following the Tigers’ 63-28 win over Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff semifinal win back on Dec. 28.

While the Tigers may be getting a bit antsy, according to Ed Orgeron, the bright side of having so much time off is that all the LSU players banged up at this point of the year have been given plenty of time to rest up for the national championship game.

One of those players, starting offensive guard Damien Lewis, was injured against Oklahoma. Had Lewis not had 16 days to heal up, there’s a chance he would not have the opportunity to play against Clemson but Orgeron says his big offensive lineman is ready to go.

“Damien is ready to play,” Orgeron said on Sunday when asked about Lewis’ status. “Jack Marucci and Tommy Moffitt those guys, everybody down there (in LSU training staff) do a tremendous job. I’ve never been around a training staff that gets guys back so fast.”

With Lewis now expected to play, along with running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and receiver Terrace Marshall, the Tigers will be as close to 100 percent healthy as can be expected this time of the year when they step on the field to face Clemson on Monday night.

Orgeron was also asked about the long layover between games for the Tigers. According to Orgeron, LSU appreciated the long layoff.

“We needed the rest,” he noted. “We gave our guys amble rest. Right now, everyone is a little antsy to play. They tell us it’s 16 days, it’s 16 days. They tell us it’s 7, it’s 7. Let’s go.”
