It’s going to be a long time before people stop talking about Tennessee’s 52-49 win over Alabama, and rightfully so after the Volunteers snapped a very long losing streak to the team and caused one of the biggest shakeups in the national rankings that we’ve seen over recent history.

Former Mississippi State and Florida head coach Dan Mullen explained during his recent appearance on “McElroy and Cubelic In The Morning” how much he thought Tennessee’s offense played a role into dismantling the Alabama defense.

“They’re very much a formational based defense,” Mullen said of the Crimson Tide. “Their ‘star’ as they call him, is going to make the call to set the defensive formation… Tennessee used some different motions, and really spread the field out. And what they were able to do was… limit Alabama defensively.”

Mullen gave an extensive breakdown as to just how exactly that worked and how piece by piece the Tennessee offense ultimately got the best of Alabama’s defensive unit:

Now appearing to be perhaps the best team in the nation, it will be interesting to watch how Tennessee performs against the likes of Georgia and Kentucky on the remaining schedule.
