Jamal Peters will play defense for Mississippi State in 2016, according to head coach Dan Mullen, who spoke during the team’s Media Day session Monday. Peters, who made two starts and played in 12 games at safety, took reps at wide receiver during the spring practice.

Mullen said that he spoke with Peters after spring practice and told him he would be playing on defense.

Peters recorded 25 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and two pass break ups as a true freshman. The Bassfield native ranked as the No. 3 safety and No. 58 overall prospect for the 2015 national signing class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
