Despite missing his second practice in a row with an ankle injury, Detroit Lions running back and former Georgia star D’Andre Swift said he will play in Sunday’s Week 2 home game against the Washington Commanders.
“I’m alright,” he said to Eric Woodyard on Thursday.
After missing his 2nd straight practice today (ankle), #Lions RB D’Andre Swift tells ESPN, “I’m alright.” Swift says he’ll “most definitely” be ready to go for Week 2 vs. Washington. He’s often being contacted by fantasy football lovers but says he doesn’t “pay no mind to it.”

Swift rushed for a career-best 144 yards on 15 carries in last Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now this Sunday he has a chance to make a little Lions history. Swift could join Billy Sims (1980) and Barry Sanders (1996) as the only Lions players with 100 rushing yards in each of the team’s first two games.
Swift put up those gaudy numbers against the Eagles despite rolling an ankle in the first half.
Swift told ESPN that he’s often contacted by fantasy football enthusiasts about his game-time status, but he said he doesn’t “pay no mind to it,” instead choosing to focus on trying to help the Lions avoid an 0-2 start for the third year in a row and the fourth time in the past five seasons.
Swift was a second-team All-SEC selection at Georgia in 2018 and a first-team All-SEC pick in 2019. He finished his 3-year career in Athens with 2,885 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns before the Lions selected him in the 2nd round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
