Danny Kanell is still not impressed with Alabama, even after the Crimson Tide’s comeback win over Oklahoma on Friday night.

On Saturday morning, Kanell – a CBS Sports analyst – insisted that Alabama is still “fool’s gold,” and that the Tide are far from fixed after a bad performance in the SEC Championship game against Georgia and some inconsistent play during the regular season. To supplement his argument, Kanell pointed to an “overrated” Oklahoma defense and a quarterback (John Mateer) who had just 12 touchdowns with 10 interceptions on the season.

Here’s a look at Kanell’s argument:

Kanell also tweeted the following Saturday morning, doubling down on his take:

While it’s true that Mateer isn’t the same quarterback he was before his hand injury, it seems a little unfounded to call that Oklahoma defense overrated. The Sooners allowed opponents just 272 total yards per game this season, which is the 9th best mark in college football. R Mason Thomas leads the way for a dominant Front 7, one that posted a CFB-leading 45 sacks on the season.

Alabama has also been dominant on the road, which speaks to Kalen DeBoer as a head coach. The Crimson Tide are 5-1 on the season in true road games and have won 5 straight, including wins over Georgia and Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

Of course, it’s all just noise to the Crimson Tide. Alabama eats this stuff up. Crimson Tide QB Ty Simpson told reporters Friday night that he appreciates the doubters and naysayers, insisting it fuels the team as they continue their quest for a national title.

To earn that title, the Crimson Tide will have to beat a red-hot Indiana squad at the Rose Bowl in a few weeks.
