No. 10 Miami is now 1-2 in its last 3 games after a crushing 26-20 overtime loss at SMU.
CBS Sports’ Danny Kanell took to social media after the game to comment on Miami’s diminished chances of making the College Football Playoff. Kanell believes this loss against unranked SMU was a death knell for the Hurricanes’ CFP hopes.
Miami led 20-17 in the fourth quarter before allowing a field goal with 25 seconds left in regular. During overtime, Miami quarterback Carson Beck threw an interception and SMU sealed the win with a 1-yard touchdown run from T.J. Harden.
Miami now drops to 2-2 in ACC play. The Hurricanes are 3-0 against ranked opponents (No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 18 South Florida, No. 18 Florida State). However, both losses are against unranked teams.
Miami will aim to bounce back next weekend when they host Syracuse. Miami leads the all-time series 16-8 but Syracuse took last year’s meeting 42-38 in the regular season finale to eliminate the Hurricanes from reaching the ACC Championship Game.
Syracuse at Miami is slated to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN).
