Famous country star, South Carolina fan jumping into sports agency business
Country music artist and noted South Carolina Gamecocks fan Darius Rucker has decided to enter the sports agency business, according to The Post and Courier.
Rucker, who is known for his role with the group “The Hootie and the Blowfish,” along with many top single hits, told ESPN on Monday that he is entering the sports agency business as a partner in MGC Sports. The firm represents golfers and other athletes, plus coaches.
“If I didn’t see Jay Z crushing it in the business like he is, I probably wouldn’t have done it,” Rucker said. “But I think I have a lot to offer.
“I’m going to be really involved,” he added. “I will be one phone call away if a client needs some advice or needs me to be at their game.”
MGC Sports already has golfers Ben Crane, Troy Merritt, Steve Stricker and Kenny Perry as clients, and Rucker intends to personally help target football players, aiming for SEC and ACC stars.
Rucker was born in Charleston, SC and went to the University of South Carolina.
