When Kary Vincent made the difficult decision to opt-out for the upcoming college football season, it left LSU without a potential starter in the defensive backfield.

Well, it appears the Tigers may have just filled that spot by reaching into the transfer market.

Nicholls State defensive back Darren Evans has announced he will continue his college football career at LSU. Evans is originally from Baton Rouge.

Evans’ decision to leave Nicholls State came after Southland Conference made the decision to postpone all fall sports. Without the option of playing for his school, Evans decided to look elsewhere.

Evans started the previous three seasons at Nicholls State (32 starts in total during that time), earning All-Southland Second Team honors during the 2018 season and finishing tied for fifth in the FCS with 15 pass breakups in 2019.

While he was scheduled to have only one season of eligibility remaining, the NCAA’s decision to give all players a free season of eligibility means Evans could play two seasons in Baton Rouge.
