LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda leaving Tigers for head coaching position at Baylor

Another big piece of LSU’s historic run to the 2019 national championship is leaving.
Dave Aranda is leaving LSU to become the next head coach at Baylor. This news was first reported by Bruce Feldman of The Atheltic.
Aranda first came to LSU after being hired by Les Miles back in 2016 but following Miles’ midseason firing and Ed Orgeron taking over LSU on an interim basis, keeping the program’s defensive coordinator was the first step to Coach O landing the full-time job in Baton Rouge.
Now Orgeron will have to replace the only defensive coordinator he’s had in Baton Rouge in 2020.
The new Baylor coach has never served as a head coach before but has annually be recognized as one of the top defensive minds in all of football in recent years.
Aranda takes over a Baylor program that advanced to the Sugar Bowl after finishing as the runner-up in the Big 12 last season to Oklahoma. Baylor lost that Sugar Bowl appearance to Georgia but was competitive in the game.
Following the Sugar Bowl, Baylor coach Matt Rhule was hired away by the Carolina Panthers.
