Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood had a strong debut but the competition will ratchet up a notch in Week 2 at Oklahoma. However, FOX Sports’ Dave Portnoy has already seen enough and is ready to make a bold proclamation.

During Big Noon Kickoff, the Michigan alum and Barstool Sports founder gave a flaming hot take on the 6-foot-4 Detroit native.

“I think Bryce Underwood may be the single best freshman player ever in college football,” Portnoy said.

An extremely bold opinion but obviously 1 soaked in Big Blue pageantry. However, Underwood is off to a pretty solid start.

Underwood completed 21 of his 31 passes for 251 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in a 34-17 victory vs. New Mexico. Underwood arrived in Ann Arbor as a 5-star prospect and the consensus No. 1 ranked player in the nation. Underwood was Michigan Mr. Football in 2024 and the MaxPreps National Freshman and Sophomore of the Year.

Underwood is aiming to guide Michigan to its first-ever victory vs. Oklahoma. The Sooners defeated the Wolverines 14-6 in the 1975 Orange Bowl, the lone previous matchup between the programs.

No. 15 Michigan at No. 18 Oklahoma is slated for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff from Memorial Stadium. The ranked showdown will be televised on ABC.
