David Pollack is extremely proud of his alma mater Georgia for establishing itself as the class of college football.
In order for defending back-to-back champion Georgia to climb to the top, they had to hurdle perennial power Alabama.
The analyst explains during a recent appearance on The Dan Patrick Show that a revamped mindset from head coach Kirby Smart is the biggest factor for how Georgia has passed Alabama.
“Kirby learned a few things a couple years ago. Kirby’s always been disciplined. He’s always been tough. He’s always been able to recruit,” Pollack said. Â “…The biggest thing Kirby learned was, he learned how to get players to now love each other. He learned 1 plus 1 is 3. He learned that taking them away from football and building camaraderie and love of teammate.
Pollack is effusive in his praise for how Smart fostering a culture of care on and off the field has paid massive dividends for the Bulldogs.
“I think that was the biggest differentiator of him being a really, really good coach and now being a great coach on his way to being an all-time great coach,” Pollack said. “It’s more than just discipline, hard work, toughness. We’ve got to be together as a team and we’ve got to love each other and fight for one another.”
Georgia will begin its quest for a historic 3-peat with a home contest vs. UT Martin on Sept. 2 (6 p.m. EST/ESPN+).
