Dawn Staley explains what she told Aliyah Boston about potentially going pro

Aliyah Boston was a top 3 player in women’s college basketball this season. The senior South Carolina forward averaged 13.8 points per game with 9.8 rebounds per game, attracting a double team all season while still putting up crazy numbers.
On Friday following South Carolina’s loss to a high-powered offense from Iowa, USC head coach Dawn Staley was asked how she would address Boston’s next step after this season. The senior forward has 1 season of eligibility remaining, but would be a top draft pick in the WNBA Draft.
Staley’s answer was blunt, throwing some slight shade at how teams play against her:
“I’m going to tell her to go,” Staley said. “There are defenses that are played against her that won’t allow her to play her game. And then it’s hard to officiate that. It’s hard to officiate that. So I would tell her to go. She’s great. She’s ready. She’s ready to see single coverage. She’s ready to make the next step to the league.”
Boston was asked about her future as well, but insisted that she has not yet made a decision. Teammate Zia Cooke, who dropped 24 points against the Hawkeyes Friday night, is in a similar boat and has to decide between going pro or returning for a shot at a title.
