Entering Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft, one of the biggest surprises came with South Carolina standout Deebo Samuel remaining on the board and available to be selected. Four picks later, that was no longer the case as the San Francisco 49ers took the Gamecock receiver in Round 2.

In his four seasons in Columbia, which included dealing with some tough injuries, Samuel managed to rack up 2,230 yards from scrimmage and 23 touchdowns. In addition to his contributions on offense, Samuel also added 1,219 return yards and four scores on kickoffs.

Early on in his first camp with the club, Samuel is already showing what a wise move the 49ers made by taking the explosive target from South Carolina.

Going up against one of the NFL’s most physical cornerbacks in teammate Richard Sherman, Samuel showed he’s got much more to his game than explosiveness on Monday. Samuel not only handles the physicality thrown at him by Sherman, but he also gets wide open (or as wide open as you can get in the NFL).
