Deion Sanders has turned Boulder, Colorado, into a party.

Lil Wayne held a mini concert on the set of FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff before Saturday’s game against Colorado State. Lil Wayne. This Colorado team was 1-11 a year ago and, in nine months under the guidance of Sanders, has turned into one of the hottest programs in college football.

Sanders met the rapper on stage Saturday and presented him with a custom Colorado jersey.

Lil Wayne was born in New Orleans. If there’s a connection to the University of Colorado, it might just simply be Sanders.

But that sort of speaks to the magic of Coach Prime.

The home of the Colorado Buffaloes played host to ESPN’s First Take and the Pat McAfee Show on Friday. On Saturday, both traveling pregame shows — FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff and ESPN’s College GameDay — broadcast from CU’s campus. It was the first visit for GameDay since 1996.

And all this was for a game against Colorado State that the Buffs are favored to win by more than 20 points.

Sanders has made CU attractive to anyone and everyone. Colorado’s social media accounts have been inundated with NFL fans claiming to have never cared about college football who are now enamored with Sanders. The draw is undeniable. He has provided a boon to the Boulder economy and has his football team sitting in its highest spot in the AP Top 25 since 2016.

“We expect it,” Sanders said of the media attention after the Nebraska game. “I know it sounds kind of boastful. At the risk of sounding arrogant, we truly expect that. And that’s why those kids come, they want the biggest stage and they’re getting that every darn week.”

Hard to argue with him when that stage includes one of the most influential hip-hop artists of all time.
