Year 3 of the Deion Sanders era in Colorado is set to kick off this Friday against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
This will be the first season since 2020 that Prime Time will be coaching a team that isn’t led by Shedeur Sanders under center. With his son now in the NFL, Deion Sanders had to make a choice at quarterback during fall camp.
The player Deion has tabbed to replace his son is Liberty transfer Kaiden Salter, who beat out true freshman and former top recruit Julian Lewis in a tightly contested battle in fall camp.
Salter was one of the most highly sought-after players in the transfer portal this past winter, as the dual-threat signal caller racked up 66 total touchdowns and 6,430 combined yards across his two seasons as the Flames’ starter at under center.
Now, he’ll be leading a new-look Buffaloes offense out in Boulder as Colorado looks to chase down a potential surprise Big 12 championship game appearance.
Sanders also said Buffs also intend to give Lewis some playing time against the Yellow Jackets, which makes sense given the immense talent the true freshman possesses in the pocket.
Here’s a clip of Sanders talking about his QB decision:
It will be interesting to see how the dynamic between Salter and Lewis plays out, both in the opener against Georgia Tech and throughout the rest of the season, as Colorado looks to make some noise in a pretty wide-open Big 12.
