Deion Sanders names hilarious Colorado student section ‘tradition’ that surprised him most

The arrival of Deion Sanders at the University of Colorado a couple of seasons ago completely revived the long-dormant football program, and in doing so, reinvigorated student interest in the Buffaloes on game days.

The CU student section, in particular, has grown immensely in terms of energy, quickly becoming one of the more underrated student sections in the entire country.

Deion recently sat down with CBS Sports Colorado, where he was asked what student section tradition has surprised him the most so far, and his response was certainly surprising, to say the least.

“The smell of weed in the second quarter,” Sanders said. “It gets me, like, every game. It seems like it’s a light-up quarter or something. I’m serious, it’s like always a TV a timeout, it never fails, and I’m like ‘wow.'”

In just about any other state, this would probably catch just about everybody in attendance off guard, but Colorado has long been known for their fondness for a certain recreational drug.

As such, it seems a bit off-brand for what Deion described here not to take place at some point or another over the course of every game. If the Buffs can take that next step in 2025, then this tradition could end up expanding past just the second quarter.
